Maria Ortiz, Counselor in Fort Myers, Florida and Online with Serenity Counseling Center
My areas of interest include the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders and co-occurring conditions, body image concerns, sport-related issues, and concerns and challenges concerning life transitions and changes. I also have experience working with individuals who have or were currently struggling with substance or alcohol use disorders. I am passionate about providing an environment that allows my client to feel safe, heard, and truly valued. I believe that life may be more challenging at some points than others, and that it's courageous to reach out for help during these moments.
I believe in using an integrative approach to therapy, as each individual's experience with mental health is unique to them, meaning their care and treatment should be as well. I stand by the belief that evidence-based treatment methods and practices should be a part of the first line of treatment, and that other options should not be. If desired by my client, I am also able to incorporate a Faith-based lens into sessions if Christian Counseling is requested.
I have a bachelor's degree in Human Physiology from the University of Iowa, with a minor in Psychology. I am currently a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern in the end stages of my master's degree at Keiser University. I am under the direct clinical supervision of Janean Byrne, who is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida #MH5525.
